Dr M A Sattar Mandal joined the Planning Commission
as the Member of the General Economics Division. He attained his Bachelor
Degree in 1970 and Masters Degree in 1971 in Agricultural Economics from
Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh. He stood first in
the first class in both the examinations and was awarded the Chancellor's
prize and Nazmul Memorial Gold Medal Award, says a press release.
A commonwealth scholar, Dr Mandal had his PhD
from the University of London in 1979 and completed his post-doctoral research
in the University of Oxford in 1986-87. In his long academic career, Dr
Mandal served as a Professor and Head of the Dept. of Agricultural Economics
of BAU, Dean of the Faculty, Member of the BAU Syndicate and many other
important positions.
Dr Mandal is currently a government nominated
member of the BRRI Board of Management an Jahangir Nagar University Academic
Council. He worked for Agriculture Sector Review, FAP-12/13, Task force
of the 1991 interim Government, World Bank Mission and National Agriculture
Policy of the Minister of Agriculture and acted as team leader of many
foreign funded projects.
He has participated in many seminars and workshops
at home and abroad. He has in his credit 48 research papers, 31 research
reports and 7 books.
